Welcome
Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, to invite you to attend the 7th International Conference on Cucurbiturils (ICCB 2021), to be held in Macau SAR, China, on the campus of University of Macau, tentatively Dec 5-8, 2021. The conference aims to provide an open forum for discussion and exchanges of ideas on all aspects of the synthesis and properties of cucurbiturils and related compounds, with an emphasis on the various emerging applications. The meeting is currently being planned with assumptions that by the proposed date, the pandemic will be mostly controlled, the travel restrictions are mostly lifted, and the world is still a peaceful place. If these assumptions cannot be fulfilled, we will consider either a virtual conference or postponing the conference to a later time, upon approval from the International Advisory Board. More information about the conference, including plenary/invited speakers, program schedule, registration, travel and accommodations, will be posted on the website that is currently being developed.
As a special administrative region (SAR) of China, Macau is an international free port and top-end tourism and leisure center. The “Vegas of the East” tag tells only half of the story. Macau bears the marks of centuries of Sino-Portuguese heritage, with age-old temples and churches, as well as colonial-era architectures alongside its modern, luxurious casinos and hotels. The same global mix influences everything from its culture to cuisine. Macau sits within easy reach of HK international airport, making it straightforward to visit from all major cities around the globe.
This letter serves as the first circular of the conference. Individual invitations for our plenary and invited lectures will be sent out later. I look forward to your participation at ICCB 2021 and meeting you in Macau!
Update on 19/02/2021: as of today, due to the pandemic, international travels are still mostly banned around the globe and the banns will be unlikely lifted in the near future. We are working closely with the international advisory board to carefully evaluate the situation and assess if the meeting will proceed as planned this year when the date is drawing close. We will provide updates in a timely manner on this webpage. Thanks a lot for your kind attention on this matter.
Update on 30/04/2021: due to the third-wave spreading of COVID-19 as well as the rapidly evolving pandemic situations in India, Brazil, and several other countries, international travels are still strictly restricted and are unlikely to be lifted this year. After consulting the ICCB international advisory board and other major stakeholders, for the safety of our colleagues and friends, we have decided to postpone the ICCB-2021 to Nov. 26-29, 2022. Invitation emails will be sent out in early 2022 to remind our participants about the exact date of the conference. Thanks a lot for your kind attention on this matter and we look forward to welcoming you to Macau in 2022.
Update on 21/05/2022: Re: Switching the 7th ICCB from Macau to Israel
Dear Colleagues,
A series of recent events have clearly indicated that China is not going to lift the strict anti-pandemic and border control policy within the foreseeable future (meaning by the end of 2022 or early 2023). Macau SAR government generally follows the central government’s anti-pandemic policies, suggesting that the border of Macau will unlikely open up this year to foreigners, and nobody can be sure if the border will open up by what time next year. As the world is gradually opening up (except for a few countries/regions), and our community has been craving for an on-site gathering, continuing to postpone ICCB conference to an uncertain date or changing it to online/hybrid would not be appropriate and may hurt our community’s development. After consulting our ICCB international advisory board as well as Profs. Ehud Keinan and Ofer Reany from Israel, it has been agreed unanimously that the conference of the 7th ICCB will be transitioned from Macau to Israel, as this would allow a very clear agenda for the conference in 2023 (around the end of June 2023) and everyone can plan ahead well to participate this on-site. This change would also allow us to come back to Macau for the 8th ICCB in 2024 (or 2025, the board will decide during the 7th ICCB) with a clear agenda.
The exact venue (in Israel) and date (likely around the end of June 2023) of the 7th ICCB will be announced by Ehud and Ofer in the following months.
We feel deeply sorry for any inconvenience this change may cause to you and I would warmly welcome you to Macau during the 8th ICCB. Before that, we’d be more than happy to meet you all in Israel in 2023. By taking this opportunity, on behalf of the ICCB international advisory board and the Macau local organizing committee, we thank Ehud and Ofer for graciously taking over the ball to organize the 7th ICCB in Israel, and we are very positive that this will be a wonderful event!
Sincerely,
